Inspired by Pi Day and raw gem and geode details, this real wedding was stylishly rockin’! What was your favorite moment during your wedding?

Sylvia: It really is so hard to pick, because our entire wedding was amazing from start to finish! But I will always remember the smile that my husband, Matt, had on his face throughout the entire ceremony. I thought that I would be nervous (especially since we wrote our own vows!), but seeing his smile made any nervous feelings fade away. I wasn’t able to stop smiling! My uncle, who is an ordained minister, performed the ceremony, and though he tried to keep a straight face, every now and then I would catch him smiling. It truly was the happiest I have ever been!

Tell us more about the wedding theme you chose and how you incorporated those elements into your décor and favors.

Sylvia: We ran with two themes for our wedding. Soon after we got engaged, we decided that we wanted to be married on Pi Day (3-14-15) and that we wanted to have a pie bar at the wedding. This was a tribute to Matt’s father, who is a high school math teacher. We found our venue, The Rock Barn, pretty quickly, and its name and stone walls inspired me to make “rocks” the décor theme for the wedding, a tribute to my dad whose hobby is collecting gems and minerals. We used a lot of pieces from his collection as table décor, and we used other natural elements, such as geodes, agate slabs, pebbles, and succulents. And of course, we had to have a rock candy themed candy buffet!

Which DIY wedding projects did you love the most?

Sylvia: I had so much fun with a lot of the DIY projects, but my favorite was probably the invitations and programs, which I designed and illustrated myself.

What’s your advice for other brides?

Sylvia: Make your wedding your own! Have fun with it and don’t be afraid to be a little bit out of the box… it is the details that are distinctly “you” that you and your guests will remember forever!
