Real Wedding: A Fun Football Themed Wedding

Real Wedding: A Fun Football Themed Wedding

Elegant, modern details came together perfectly for Lacey + Adam’s eventful football themed wedding! These high school sweethearts celebrated in game day fashion with a fabulous photo shoot on the field and even a stadium send-off. The bride, Lacey, tells how they brought their wedding vision to life:

What was the inspiration behind your wedding?

Adam and I grew up together and were high school sweethearts, so we wanted to get married in our hometown. Our wedding was traditional with unique personalized touches that were fun, modern, and elegant. Our ceremony was held at the church I attended growing up, and I wanted our decorations to be simple, beautiful, and memorable. The Bride and Groom After Ceremony | Wes Roberts Photography

With the help of both of our parents, we set up a beautiful arch in the church with a chandelier, and the floral touches were added by good friends of the groom’s family. We were married in the spring, so we used colors that were bright and “springy.” My favorite color, blue, was used as our main color for the wedding with hints of yellow, mint green, and grey.

Adam is a football coach, and we wanted to incorporate that into our wedding festivities since that is such a big part of his life. Our reception was held in the Stadium Club at the football field for Troy University, the college we both attended. Our save the dates looked like a football ticket, and we also used a few other football touches in the reception.

Were there any special touches or DIYs you incorporated into your décor or theme?

We were able to DIY a lot of details for our wedding. Since I’m a graphic designer, I wanted to make everything for wedding. I designed our wedding logo, website, save the date, invitation suite, program booklet, and signs for the reception.

We also displayed photos that were really special to us, including both of our parents’ wedding photos and high school photos of us. We DIY-ed our menu cards and wedding hashtag signs and displayed them in silver photo frames on reception tables. Touches of blue were incorporated throughout our decor. I gave my bridesmaids cute “Something Blue” favor bags for them to hold their jewelry in, and vintage blue glass tea light holders were used to light up tables at the reception.

Foam spirit fingers customized with our names and wedding date were a big hit during the reception! Our cakes also had personalized touches. The bride’s cake had a personalized cake topper, and the groom’s cake was a chocolate football field that was just as delicious as it was cute! We also spray painted a football gold and painted “You’re Next” on it for the garter toss and made a guest book using our engagement pictures. We still have our guestbook on our coffee table!

What was your favorite moment during your big day?

My favorite moment of the day was our send-off in the football stadium. Everyone cheered us out of the reception with foam spirit fingers and pom poms in our wedding colors. It was so much fun to run down the stadium steps holding Adam’s hand surrounded by all of our family and friends who were there to help us celebrate!

What advice would you give to other brides?

Don’t get stressed about the little things, even when sometimes that’s hard to do. In the end, remember your wedding is ultimately a celebration of your love for one another and your marriage. Instead of only focusing so much on that one day, remember to also reflect on the fact you found your other half and after your wedding you’ll be married, which is so exciting!

Also, Pinterest and other wedding planning sites are great sources to find ideas, but don’t feel pressured to do everything you see. Make your wedding about you and your groom, because that’s what your big day is all about.

On your wedding day some things aren’t always going to go as you planned. Just go with the flow and enjoy every minute of it. Your wedding day flies by a lot faster than you think it will. Just remember to take it all in, because it’s so special to have all of your family and friends there to celebrate with you.
